Bangkok trip 2023 - Day 1
Our second cross-border trip after getting our passport was to Thailand and the kids voted to go to Bangkok instead of Jakarta or Brunei. This will also be our inaugural international flight. We bought the tickets 6 months in advance so that it's slightly cheaper.
After spending much of the day preparing and packing, we thought why not go after Maghrib prayers since it's not long to go after all. Linda packed some chicken briyani to go, meaning to eat at the airport. On the way, we stopped at the Nilai R&R to get some drinks but it was suddenly jammed there for some reason. We wasted a good 15 minutes in traffic.
We parked our car at Salak Tinggi ERL station (costs 15 ringgit per day) and took the train to KLIA 2 (RM19 for 5 pax). That's another 35 minutes. By the time we got to the airport, I had to run to check in our baggage. The Air Asia crew gave me the run around on which counter to check in. I went to four different counters before finding the right one.
After rushing to eat dinner, we hurried up to the boarding gate. Thankfully, the flight was delayed (as they always do). We didn't lift off until well after midnight.
At the final immigration counter, some of our beauty products like facial cleanser and toothpaste were confiscated. I totally forgot about the liquid in flight rule. We can only bring aboard tiny little amounts of liquid products (no more than 100 ml) and they must be in transparent bottles and bags. In hindsight, we should have checked them in with our baggage.
The flight was smooth and trouble-free. We got in Bangkok around 1:00 AM local time, which is 2:00 AM Malaysian time. Our original plan to take the hotel shuttle van was scrapped after we found a cheaper ride-sharing option called Bolt. I only get to sleep around 3:00 AM. The Gold Airport Suites hotel were decent but the walls are too thin and we could here everything outside. Whenever anybody closes a door, it sent vibrations through our walls. At RM95 per night, we could not complain much because we just wanted a place to shut eye for the night or in hour case for less than 5 hours.
I blame this on Tony Fernandes and Air Asia for changing our flight time 3 times from 6:00 PM until midnight. We could have arrived earlier in Bangkok and have a good night rest, ready for tomorrow's itinerary.
