Rancid - And Out Come the Wolves

To be honest, I'm not really big on punk rock music except for a few exceptions. And Rancid is an exceptional punk rock band. Their 1995 album ...And out come the wolves is probably the best punk rock album ever made. Over half of the songs in this album is really good including 3 of their smash hit singles - "Roots Radical", "Time Bomb" and "Ruby Soho".
I loved this album so much that I bought the cassette and even a t-shirt featuring the album's cover in front. I wore that T only once though because I was too fat it didn't fit. Whatever happened to that cool t-shirt today is still a mystery. ...And out come the wolves has 19 songs but I only uploaded the good ones here. Enjoy!

Everclear - Sparkle and Fade

Everclear's Sparkle and Fade is one of my all-time favorite rock album that I bought when I was 16. Listening to this album again today, brought back fond memories of my high school years. There we were at a boarding school in rural Kelantan, surrounded by palm oil trees and secondary jungle, no Internet, MTV or whatever but still we were rocking to Everclear, Greenday and Weezer. How cool is that?
I don't know what happened to the cassete that I bought but even today, Sparkle and Fade is quite hard to come by. Nevertheless, I managed to get my hands on this album and put them up here for all the world to share. My personal favorite songs are listed in bold.

I first heard this song on Xfresh FM last week but it didn't catch my liking until yesterday. I didn't get to hear the band name or song title so I just googled the lyrics and found this band on their Myspace site. Stopgap is their (first?) single from their second album Timezones available for download (for free!) at their Myspace page. Lead singer Law was previously had a another band called Nakeru but they broke up and he later created Law.

I'm a huge fan of Weezer so when I heard stopgap I thought OMG, is this like their new single or something? When I found out it was not Weezer I'm pretty impressed nonetheless with Law for making such a beautiful song such as stopgap. It's like Weezer meets The Platters. But sadly that's where the similarity ends. After listening all of their songs from Timezones I can summarize Law as more of a pop band than a rock band (they did said that on their site). I mean more than half of their music is pop with only 4 songs that suits my rock taste. I hope that Law would drop their pop side and concentrate on their rock side more. I can't imagine Law performing in a gig with music that sounds like Rabbit or Bjork. This band has got potential to be Malaysia's own Weezer, they just need to be guided to the rock path. Anywho, that's my personal views only and they don't really have to change the sound because of me he he.

Anyway, keep on rocking Law and keep those good music coming. You guys rock!

Makes me wanna go and subscribe to Discovery Channel although I don't need it because I spend less than an hour a day watching TV on weekdays.

Listening to Swedish pop act The Cardigans always bring back fond memories of my short but memorable stay in Sweden during which I hang around IKEA World HQ eating meatballs with lead singer Nina Persson and trek along the fjords which is strange because I've never been to Sweden or anywhere else outside this country, ever. Besides, nobody treks along the fjords. It's dangerous and quite pointless. Ah well, maybe in my dreams.
Who could forget that sweet girly voice of Nina Persson and the cool yet funky 60s inspired pop rock music by The Cardigans. Although not very active at the moment, this band is definitely up there among my most fave bands along with Nirvana and Weezer. Here's the best of The Cardigans for your listening pleasure.

This song is so cool.

Before 10:04 if people talked to me about One Buck Short I would have said One Buck who? Yeah I've heard about the band but I just can't recall any good songs from them before. It all change a few weeks back when I first heard this song on Fly FM. I love this song just after listening to it just once. I've never heard of this song again until last week when it started receiving heavy airplay on both Hitz and Fly FM.



10:04 is definitely about the movie Back to the Future where 17 years old Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) accidentally traveled back in time and inadvertently interferes with his parents' first meeting in 1955 and he must get them to fall in love before he goes back to 1985. The song centers around the night of the school dance (with the theme Enchantment Under the Sea) where Marty's parent (George and Lorraine) first kissed and fell in love. 10:04 PM is the time the clock tower was struck by lighting generating the 1.2 gigawatt of power required to send Marty back to the future with his De Lorean DMC-12 time machine.



I love Back To The Future and the school dance night is my most favorite part of the movie. Sometimes I wish I could travel back in time myself and correct a few things that I've screwed up in the past.Although I've listened to this song about 60 times already tonight I still can't get that 2 lines from the song. Well, that's the best I can come up with anyway since I can't find the lyrics anywhere on the Internet. Their music sounds very American to me but oddly enough their lead vocal sounds suspiciously British and it's just weird. But then again who am I to tell them how to sing right?

Bottom line is this song totally rocks and is currently my most favorite song in the whole universe. Check out One Buck Short's latest album Halal and Loving it featuring 10:04 and other hits like Fast times and Kelibat korupsi.
