Medan Muara Ikan Bakar

Yesterday my back felt so much better thanks to some TLC from wifey and that analgesic cream works like a charm. I felt super-bored sitting at home doing nothing, so in the evening I decided to take my family for dinner in Port Klang.

I've been meaning to bring them to eat there for quite sometime now. Only yesterday though I finally had the chance to do that.

Frankly, I don't really know any other place than the Medan Muara Ikan Bakar restaurant in Tanjung Harapan. The place was exactly 57 km from Seri Kembangan and it took me around 50 minutes to get there using the highway.

The last time I went there I was only a student and we could only watch those people eat from afar since we couldn't possibly afford to eat there.

Although you can find a few seafood restaurants here in Seri Kembangan, there's nothing like sitting there by the seaside enjoying the cool sea breeze while watching the glorious sunset. The scenery and atmosphere there is simply breathtaking.

The service is prompt and excellent and we waited for no more than 10 minutes for our seafood to arrive. Fortunately no one in our family is allergic to seafood. Else we won't be enjoying these:

Adam was too busy playing and running around with some kids there to enjoy the food. I don't like the fish much but the breaded squids and prawns are to die for.

But alas we won't be going there often because all the good services and the great food comes with a price. For 2 drinks, 2 fried rice, a fish and a couple of squids and prawns, I was RM44.15 poorer yesterday.

Medan Muara Ikan Bakar is an excellent choice if you want to pau your boss/vendor/supplier/contractor or get treated by a friend who just got a raise/bonus but for the rest of us, there's always Pasar Malam Serdang :)

Good food, no motivation

Once a month we’re required to attend this motivational seminar held by Awang Jusoh. The event was held at Residence inside Uniten.

I’m not really into this seminars thing but my boss made everybody go anyway last weekend.

If you've never heard of Mr. Awang Jusoh, so do I! But he somehow manages to persuade my boss to pay him a few thousand ringgit to motivate us, that's something.

Anyone who came late we’re made to sing up front and totally embarrass themselves.

It’s a sheer waste of time really. It took them 5 minutes just to come out up front and another 10 minutes to get them to sing one measly line.

The two Rizals, they’re quite close with each other ahem, ahem.

I didn’t know it was take your twin to motivational seminar day! From left: Hanum, Ipah, KJ, Nik, JK, Hapi and Munah.

The seminar started at 8:30 and we break for tea at around 10:30.

Speaking of which, food was the main reason why we all came along in the first place. The buffet lunch was absolutely fabulous.

We ate at the café overlooking a lake complete with a live band performing in the background.

I had the (un)fortunate chance to sit at the same table with Mr. Awang himself. We had a very lively conversation with him during lunch (yeah right).

Acha won first prize for eating the most that day. There he was with his eleventh helping. Okay I ate a lot too but I try to sample a little bit of everything.

One for the album.

Obviously somebody ate too much and fall asleep at the back. But it’s okay, Mr. Awang Jusoh just close one eye and go on with the seminar.

That dude with the cap is so creepy man, I hope he doesn’t go Brokeback on me anytime soon..”

Who’s big and pregnant but still very adorable and cute?”

Me! Me!”

Whoa, this dude is fat and what’s with the hair man?

Abang Din finally gets his chance to sing Ayam den lapeh..

Overall I think this seminar is almost a total waste of money. You know what will really motivate us?

1. A raise

2. A bonus

3. A nice picnic somewhere

4. A much nicer errr management

Motivational seminars is definitely NOT one of them.

The week that was

Last week we finally got our 3 months due mileage claims money. Despite the horrid time he made us go through, I'd like to thank The Boss anyway for that.

A few weeks ago I've decided to keep my hair long again. To be honest, I'm tired of shaving my head every 2 weeks plus my expensive hair-cutting machine was broken beyond repair earlier this month and I don't think I'm gonna buy a new one so that's it. So last week I went to the barber for the first time in like 3 years to get my hair trimmed a little bit here and there. I told him exactly where I wanted it trimmed but apparently the barber had other ideas how my hair should look like. I specifically told him not to cut my hair at the top but he cut it anyway so now I looked very much like Bart Simpson (or like Sudin as some my friends call it). I hate this new hairstyle really and how I'd wish I could stay home for the next few weeks until they grow back and I don't look so fugly.

Apart from that I sent my car for it's 20000km service also last week. I have no idea it was time for some major services already so when the guy at the workshop said 400 ringgit my jaws nearly dropped to the floor. So much for my savings plan, sigh.

Anyway they made me wait for 5 fricking hours at the workshop, must be a new world record. I read every reading material, got my hands on the Astro remote and basically made myself at home there. But even after 5 hours they still haven't fix my leaking power steering problem. Said they need to order the spare parts first.

I've been experiencing minor backaches all week but since it's minor I did nothing about it. Then on Wednesday the pain suddenly became unbearable that in the afternoon I can't barely move without hurting my back. The doctor who examined me said I've got a really sore muscle around my waist probably from lifting heavy stuff and a bad posture. He gave me an injection to the butt (again) and 2 days off to recover. Thank God it's nothing serious like a Lumbar disc herniation or a degenerative disc disease or something! <-- This guy been watching too much Grey's Anatomy.

We bought a new sofa and a tv bench yesterday. It's no big deal really, just a regular 3-seater PVC sofa.

The official office grapevine

In case you didn't get that whole Buzz Lightyear - Emperor Zurg story, my point was, my superior had blocked every site with the word 'blog' in it's URL meaning we now cannot visit Blogger.com or any .blogspot addresses. If he meant to stop me from blogging well I got news for you mister, it didn't work! The only thing he managed to do was really piss me off. It's not like I spent my entire day at work blogging or anything. Imagine if I block access to Lelong.com.my or those silly forums you frequent, how would that make you feel? If it wasn't for the fact he's my superior and that he signs my claims and leave forms, I'd stop talking to him altogether. So don't be surprised if I gave you the cold shoulder from now on. You asked for it.

Of course I can still read blogs today through some ingenious means (I'm not telling how :P) but I cannot read the c-box or the recent comments on the sidebar, bleh.

On the positive side, now that nobody at this office cannot read my blog anymore I'm now free to write anything I want here right? Well not exactly everything (I still like my job) but many things that I have reservations writing about before. From now on this blog shall be the Official Office Grapevine.

Although I have heaped praises on my manager previously alas he's only human and with many flaws too. Adwien, our site supervisor quit recently because of him. Zack, our engineer also quit because he can't stand him. Next we might be losing our System Administrator also because of him. If he keeps this up, we'd be losing all our hardworking and talented people one by one.Our manager is a fine manager except that sometimes he's like sort of clueless and he likes to shift the blame on somebody else to save his ass.

And our software engineers? They need a raise, really-really need a raise. I think they've worked their ass down for that project for almost a year now and they truly deserve some reward and recognition. I'd be frustrated too if my uni friends is earning almost twice as much at other companies or in the government service. If they don't get a raise soon, I trust they'd jump off the ship at the first chance that comes.

The new secretary? Let's just say not everyone likes her loud shrieking voice or her sometimes annoying attitude. I don't have any problems with her just yet, in fact she'd been rather nice to me even :P

I know our dear cleaner have been doing a great job keeping our office clean and tidy and stuff but she really-really needs to use a deodorant :)

As for me, I'm currently stumped with work. Previously we have for staff doing this job with me but since Jali and Sudin left and Bujal been upgraded to 'Engineer', I'm left doing all these work myself. Doing the job of four people at the pay of one? Very clever. Not that I mind or I can't handle them, it's just maybe they could give me like a raise or something? (Yeah, dream on). Heck I don't even have much time to even update my blog nowadays, that's how busy I am.

Music of the day

Kerispatih - Mengenangmu

Tak kan pernah habis airmataku,
Bila ku ingat tentang dirimu,
Mungkin hanya kau yang tahu,
Mengapa sampai saat ini ku masih sendiri

Adakah di sana kau rindu padaku,
Meski kita kini ada di dunia berbeda,
Bila masih mungkin waktu kuputar, kan kutunggu dirimu

Biarlah ku simpan, sampai nanti aku kan ada di sana
Tenanglah dirimu dalam kedamaian
Ingatlah cintaku, kau tak terlihat lagi
Namun cintamu abadi

Fun times at Alamanda

I don't know what's got into him but The Boss asks us all to join him bowling at Alamanda last Saturday (after the motivational seminar).

I wasn't sure of going at first since it's been a long day at the seminar and Linda just came back from doing her overtime on her birthday, in the end we went there anyway.

After having dinner at the food court we straight to Power Bowl downstairs. FYI, I last went bowling around 4 years ago and I'm pretty sure I'd be a laughing stock in there.

To our surprise we were the first to arrive there and I was greeted by The Boss himself. Nobody else was in sight and I thought maybe the others weren't coming and I'll be stuck playing with The Boss all night long!

Thankfully, about half of the staffs showed up for the night and we knocked ourselves out with free-flowing bowling courtesy of The Boss. We've got like 4 lanes reserved for us that night.

I played along with Chip and her boyfriend, Hanum, KJ and Dina (the practical girl). I must say Chip must be bowling a lot before this cause she consistently got the highest marks while Hanum, well let's just say she likes to aim for the gutter :)

I did terribly too for the first two games before improving tremendously on the third game. If I'd stayed longer, I'd kick everybody's ass that night he he. Too bad Adam was getting very sleepy by then and we had to retire early, *sigh*.

Anyway, we had a whole load of fun that night at Power Bowl, Alamanda. That was the first time I saw The Boss so relaxed and he even mingles around freely with everyone there (which is a rare sight I tell you). That beats any motivational seminars if you ask me. We definitely should do this more often, right guys?

Grow old with you

I wanna make you smile whenever youre sad
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I wanna do is grow old with you

I'll get your medicine when your tummy aches
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you

I'll miss you
I'll kiss you
Give you my coat when you are cold

I'll need you
I'll feed you
Even let you hold the remote control

So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink
Put you to bed if you've had too much to drink
I could be the man who grows old with you
I wanna grow old with you

Motorola RAZR V3i review

The Motorola RAZR V3i mobile phone belongs to the RAZR family which includes the V3 (without memory slot) and the V3xx (with 3G, HSDPA and EDGE).

The V3i comes with a decent 1.2 Megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom and can support up to 1GB of external storage in the form of micro SD cards.

The cool thin clamshell design is among the main reason I bought this phone and it's fricking light too (weighs just around 99 grams).

Audio quality from the speaker is quite okay lah, not as good as the Sony-Ericsson walkman phone but better than the Nokia's and you can transfer pictures and music effortlessly with the Bluetooh function.

Linda was grinning from ear to ear when she got the phone and I think she's not finished bragging about it to all her friends just yet :)

Lastly, screw Nokia cause from now on, all my kids and future generation must buy Motorola phones only ha ha! But seriously, anybody who had used a (newer) Motorola today would agree that they're sturdy, tough and does not damage easily from everyday wear and tear.

I like this video solely because of those hot chicks :)

Overheard in Seri Kembangan

"Honey have you seen my phone?"

"Emm, no dear. Try ask Adam - I saw him playing with it just now"

"Lend me your phone, I wanna call mine"

"Oh here it is, under the pillow.."

*Muhksin ringtone*

"Hey who's phone is that?? OMG you got me a phone!!!!"

"Happy Birthday dear :)"

Small greeting card = RM 0.30

Wrapping paper = RM 1.00

Motorola V3i phone = RM500

The look on wife's face when she saw the new phone = Priceless

There are some things money can't buy.

For everything else, there's mileage claims :)

Houston we have a problem

Dear Commander Nebula of Star Command,

It has come to my attention recently that the super evil Emperor Zurg had succeeded with his evil plan of trying to take over the world. Yesterday he successfully blocked every website containing the word 'blog' in it's URL thus denying all decent blogger in this company the chance to read almost half of all blogs out there plus making it really difficult for them to post anything to Blogger.com et al.

But all hope is not lost yet. Although the evil Emperor has taken control of the firewalls and servers, he definitely can't control our minds and hearts. We will always find one way or another to convey our message of freedom to the world. So until I successfully devise a plan to overthrow the evil Emperor Zurg, let us put our hopes in our hearts and walk on with our head up high. To infinity.... and beyond!!!

You know those salted eggs are actually made from duck's egg? I've been eating them for like 20 years and not until last week I found out what they're made of. Yucks!

I never eat ducks or anything associated with them my entire life. So when my wife made me ate those eggs on Wednesday, it wasn't long before my tummy started to disagree with what I had. I woke up with a bad stomach ache around 3:00 a.m and by morning I'm down with diarrhea.

Arghh. If I get to choose between fever and diarrhea, I'll have fever anytime. At least I don't have to go to the toilet every 30 minutes. I did go to work yesterday but after 10 minutes I rushed myself to the panel clinic nearby cause the pain was getting unbearable. The good doctor gave me one injection on my butt and gave me the day off to rest. I don't know why she insists on injecting my butt instead of say my arm? I suppose the medication will travel faster from there maybe? (OR she just enjoys seeing my butt ha ha!).

Anyway the shot works wonders on my diarrhea but not without a side effect. In the afternoon I felt feverish and later in the evening my wife confirmed that my body is quite hot. I did sleep for a long time yesterday and woke up around 4:30 with a slight headache, probably from too much sleeping. There was like 12 missed calls on my phone which I deliberately set on silent this morning. I guess I'm very much a wanted guy now huh?

Naturally after so much sleeping during the day, I find myself very much awake at night. So Linda and I spent some quality time together watching 3 episodes of Grey's Anatomy back to back up until 1:30 in the morning. Honey, I'm sorry I'm a bit fussy today and made you cook those porridge and 2 jugs of water and mind for Adam the whole evening. But after all it's YOUR fault that I became sick like this :)

The guys rule

It's common knowledge that every school holiday, people get married by the busload. Heck, even the PM is getting married tomorrow. So to all the wives to be out there, here's some simple rules for you to remember about guys for a long and lasting relationship.

Please note... these are all numbered "1" ON PURPOSE!

1. Men ARE NOT mind readers.

1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. English Premier League. It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.

1. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that way.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not work! Strong hints do not work! Obvious hints do not work! Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly Acceptable answers to almost every question.

1. Come to us with a problem only If you want help solving it. That's what we do.
Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem. See a doctor.

1. If you don't dress like the Paris Hilton, don't expect us to look like Brad Pitt.

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.

1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done. Not both.
If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials.

1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," We will act like nothing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, Expect an answer you don't want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear Is fine...Really.

1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as formula one, football formations, or golf.

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

1. I am in shape. Round IS a shape!

From Bored.com

Mad season

All this week I had to send my 2 year old kid to another nursery (which belongs to the same owner) at Vista Pinggiran. Since there's only 2-3 kids left at the nursery in Taman U, we had no choice but to send and pick him up from there instead. I was cool with that at first until something happened yesterday. While I was about to pick up Adam at the nursery, some kid about Adam's age suddenly hit him right before my eyes. Adam cried of course but the owner of the nursery which happens to be there did nothing. She was too preoccupied with some other smaller kid to do anything. So I thought it was probably nothing, kids fight all the time so it's perfectly normal right?

Right after that we stopped at a playground just outside the nursery when Adam nagged me to play there for a while. This is when that kid who earlier hit Adam inside came running to look for Adam and when he found him, hit and shove Adam right under my nose. I was fuming mad of course and gave that kid a spectacular smackdown right there and then.

Okay I lied, I didn't exactly do that but I did yell angrily at that kid which probably scared the daylights out of him because he ran scampering back into the nursery. Obviously, this kid is mental and he got some issues with Adam or something. Yeah I know he's just a kid and everybody at the playground must think I'm crazy or something yelling like that but I'm not gonna let anybody bully my kid in front of me. Adam is normally friendly and warm and he would never deliberately hurt other people unless they hurt him first. God knows what that disturbed Haikal kid does to my son all this time he's been there. Just because your parent is screwed doesn't mean you can take it out on my kid, PUNK! I can't think of other reasons why he acts like that really.

One thing for sure I'm not going to send Adam there again starting next month. They've got way too much kids than they could handle there and I'm net letting my kid become a punching bag for that mental brat. So people, don't send your kids to Umie Transit in Taman Universiti or Taska Didik in Vista Pinggiran if you know what's good for your kid. There I've said it.

.................................................................

A few days ago when my boss called to see me he said "Have you been sleeping downstairs? Cause your hair looked like a mess, like you've just woke up or something.." So I said nah, my hair is naturally like than when they're long(er than usual). Well FYI, I deliberately let my hair long nowadays as a protest of sort for your errr you know what. While I look very dashing when my hair is like this long (see pic below), during the time in between, (you know - not to long or bald, just short) I looked absolutely hideous. That's why I shave my head every 2 weeks or so, so that I didn't scare away potential suitors ha ha ha!

Anyway I am keeping my hair from now on and I'm waiting to see his reaction when I became that. There's no rule saying we can't grow our hair long so we'll have to wait and see. So goodbye to the old me and say hello to handsome here :)

.................................................................

In other news, grandma called the other telling me she's worried about who else, my mother. She obviously doesn't approve this guy she currently dating. Like yeah! I never liked the idea in the first place but my mother will do it anyway just like before. So I said it's useless for me trying to convince her otherwise.

Grandma also said Faiz (yes my Faiz) is thinking of tying the knot some time in the near future. I thought she was kidding me at first but when she went into the details I'm speechless. I was like totally shocked when she said that Faiz did have many suitors for him (in other word he's a chic magnet) and he's got a steady girlfriend or something already right now. Of course I'm totally cool if he's getting married now or whatever, it's just I wonder how he's gonna support this family of his when he's still got some way to go before graduation and he's not exactly loaded or something (not to mention he goes out for 40 days every now and then, poor girl!). Whatever it is, I hope you will think it through bro, don't do anything rash or stupid now. So Hasnilia, I'm sorry to say that Faiz is officially off the market now so you can just forget about him now :)

Adam - 30 months

It seems like only yesterday I fret about Adam being a bit slow in learning how to stand and walk. Fast-forward 18 months later, now I wish he would slow down a bit instead! Time sure does fly when you’re having fun. Well fun if you take out the sleepless nights and vomiting and crying and tantrums and the fact that you have little or no life at all. But rest assured that the fun part far outweigh the hardship. Just waking up every morning to see your bundle of joy asleep more than make up for all the headache and growing pains.

30 months on, I can safely say the terrible two phase is all but gone now. Adam is certainly more well behaved and obedient than say when he’s 24 months old. Today he will usually ask for permission from his dad or mom before doing anything like “Can I play with this knife mom?” or “Can I drop this phone from the stairs papa?” stuff like that. Plus he asks a lot of questions too nowadays. He wanna know the title of every song played on my pc or in the car, every programme on tv and generally about every fricking thing he sets his eyes on.

I guess this is the phase when your kid started asking so many questions and stuff. Of course I’m more than happy to answer them (most of the time). But although your dad is super-cool Adam, fact is he doesn’t know EVERYTHING! And since I make it a point not to lie to my kids (if I can help it) sometimes I felt a bit guilty when I make up stories about things that I don’t know. Questions like “Why does mom has to buy so many shoes?” or “Why do men have nipples?” I honestly don’t know how to answer those. Next thing you know he’ll be asking where do babies come from!

Adam is currently obsessed with everything Spider-man. When Linda bought him those spider-man pajamas the other day he got so excited and just can’t wait to put them on. He would point at those Spider-man billboards outside, stare eyes wide at every Spider-man commercial on tv and get all excited upon seeing anything resembling the Spider-man logo. I shudder to think what he’s reaction would be next time we walk by the toys department. I don’t exactly approve him falling for those mass-commercialization trap, but since he already does, might as well be Spidey (sorry Spongebob!).

Adam loves making friends too. Every time we go out, he's not afraid at all to approach total strangers and say hi to them. Even when most of the kids at his nursery are much older than him, he has no problem blending with them. I suppose that’s why he felt lonely and bored at home at times without his friends. That’s why we’re planning to give him a sister/brother soon ha ha! Okay I’m seriously kidding about that last statement :P

And despite new additions to our families, Adam is still the favourite grandchild of our respective parents. I thought he’ll get some competition from his new cousins but nope, he’s still everybody’s favourite. Linda’s folks are crazy about him and would periodically call all the way from Kelantan just to speak with Adam and my mother came by every other week just to see him.

If you’re wondering why we let his hair grew so long, trust me we tried. He’ll kick and scream and thrash about violently to get free. He’s just scared stiff of those scissors and the hair-cutting machine and I won’t even try taking him to the barber. So until he grows up a bit I guess we’ll have to make do with that hair style. Frankly I think he looks perfectly all right but the wife wants him to look like a normal kid. Pah!, I don’t want my kid to be normal! That’s so boring. I want Adam to be special you know, change-the-world kind of special. Now where can I get those radio-active spiders, anybody?
